ASK THE REVIEWER: Revell's Chi-Town Hustler and Hawaiian Funny cars

Howdy, all -

I'm getting enough questions behind the scenes that I thought it might be worth a shot to toss up another interactive magazine review addendum, particularly since this one is a little higher-profile than what I usually do.

To recap some of those questions:

- Yes, the rear fender arches on this Hawaiian are different than what you might see on other buildups, because I did not follow Revell's engraved guide exactly - I worked from photos of the restored car instead, using straight-on side profile shots of that area.

- It was a matter of some discussion when the kits came out, but I entirely forgot to mention that one of the Hustler's  "Champion" logo decals is reversed.  Because these cars would change in appearance practically from one race to the next, it's impossible to rule out an actual backwards Champion logo on the 1:1 Hustler for sure; but I haven't found any documentation to back it up.

- Though the restored original Hawaiian has black tape wrapped around the top roll cage sections, I opted to leave mine red.

- The small interference problem with the Hustler's driver cell was handled partly by filing the forward suspension link a bit, but mostly by grinding some clearance into the adjacent corner of the cockpit.

- The body shells on both have rattle can candy paint jobs (i had a false start on the Hawaiian with a metallic blue that just didn't cut it). Tamiya Silver Leaf was the base coat for both, and Testors One-Coat Wet Look Clear lacquer was the finish.  The Hawaiian used Tamiya TS-72 Clear Blue, and the Hustler used a heavier buildup of Testors Candy Red to get it darker.

- The whole "Pledge with Future Shine" brand doesn't refer to furniture polish; it's simply the current label for the same Future floor acrylic you know and love - although some modelers have found that furniture polishes like Pledge give their paint jobs an extra edge when used as a finishing touch.  The food coloring is nice, cheap, and grocery store-ready, but be prepared to get that Future pretty dark if you want to use it as a tint.

I'll be checking periodically to see if there's more any of you would like to discuss...
